Worn out ... both of us!

Actually, maybe all of us. It has been 1 month and 1 day since our frantic drive to the hospital. And we have a long way to go.

First let me clarify. There was some confusion yesterday when I said I was concerned more about "her heart." I meant her spiritual/emotional heart, not the thump-thump, physical heart. Other than a fast heartbeat because of meds (and disorientation) her heart is OK. Her blood pressure is OK, but sometimes is affected by meds. But her heart is working OK.

Now that that is out of the way, this is the beginning of a long road. They have taken her sedation meds way down, so she is a little more interactive, though not coherant. She tries to turn to our voices and raises her hand to get our attention. If she is laying uncomfortably, she tries to adjust herself in the bed, so we have to work that for her by lifting the sheet and moving her slowly. Which only lasts until the bed shifts her around! (She has one of those inflating matresses that shift her weight to keep from getting bed sores.) However, they have warned us that now that she is coming out from under the sedation meds, she will become more and more uncomfortable and will move and strain more. They are hoping she will not need to be resedated. The best way to determine what she can accomplish on her own is for her to be awake, but there is a medication that they can give her that will sedated her without interfering with the breathing patterns. So, pray for God to provide physical comfort to her and that she will be able to understand this is only for a little while.

Oh, and they are going to remove some of the old IV lines. They believe they could possibly the source of the fever, so they are going to change them just in case. Her fever did drop in response to the antibiotics, so it was caused by an infection of some sort. Hopefully, the lines are the problem., and she will not get any more fevers.

Now...I am going to go take a nap. I may get a chance to write more later this evening, but it will be after 8:00 pm if I do. If it isn't there by 9:00, I didn't get a chance. Thank you, guys and gals, for your patience with me.
