We met with the Doctor this afternoon. She is not viable for a transplant at this time. There are several reasons for this.
First of all, she was on a rejection med that they were hoping to be able to kick her out of the chronic rejection that she was in the midst of. However, one of the side affects of the medication was that it prohibits healing. The concern is that she will not be able to heal from surgery.
The other concern is that she has blood issues that are preventing her blood from clotting the way that it should, so for obvious reasons, surgery would be out of the option.
Our worries are that the longer she is on the ventilator, the less likely she would be able to breathe on her own after a transplant. If she remains on the vent for 3 weeks, she will not be able to receive a transplant.
Our best bet is that she will be able to get off the ventilator on her own and that the blood issue will clear up. However, her lungs are very stiff, so it is no small feat that we are asking her to accomplish. But, she is nothing if not tenacious. And you don't dare tell her what she can't do! So we will watch her and will be letting you know the direction she is progressing.
You are in my heart and in my prayers Tammy!
